ShellDesign is a state-of-the art design tool and post-processor for reinforced concrete shell structures subjected to stresses in and out of plane. ShellDesign is owned, developed and supported by Dr.techn.Olav Olsen. The design tool includes relevant design codes in addition to innovative and advanced calculation procedures for structural response. 

The implemented "Consistent Stiffness Method (CSM)" is a practical approach for structural non-linear analysis for concrete structures and has successfully been used in several projects. There is also an ongoing work to implement the "Modified Compression Field Theory (MCFT)”, a new method for transverse shear design. The design tool is suitable for both onshore and offshore applications. 


ShellDesign performs sectional design calculations based on user input or results from finite element (FE) analyses from DNV's SESAM package and ABAQUS.

The implemented design codes are NS 3473, 6th edition, and Eurocode2, NS-EN 1992-1-1:2004+NA:2008. The program will be continuously updated to reflect other design codes when required.

ShellDesign enables efficient design of high quality for large concrete structures, where there is:
  • Large FE-models
  • High number of load cases
  • High number of load combinations
  • High utilization of concrete and reinforcement      
The results can be presented in tables, 2D graphics and 3D graphics.
