Specialist Consultancy

Conceptual Design

Dr.techn.Olav Olsen a.s is one of Norway's leading consultancies specialising in structural and marine design. Our knowledge of conceptual design is extensive in this area, and we have repeatedly produced designs that prove significantly lighter and more economic that traditional designs.

Concrete offshore structures

Works of Art

In cooperation with a number of fine artists and architects, we are solving the technical challenges involved in installing large pieces of art outdoors or into large ocean vessels. This work places particular emphasis on our ability to design slender load bearing structures that complement the expression desired by the artists.

Art Projects

Our art projects are performed in close cooperation with a number of artists, architects and workshops. We have developed established relationships with a number of fine artists through the years, and have been involved in the design of art installations both on the mainland and on large cruise liners.

Our contribution

Our briefs may include structural design of load bearing systems, design drawings and methods of installation for large pieces of art exposed to wind or wave forces in both on and offshore installations.

Environmental Consultancy

Under this label we include the planning and management of the environmental aspects of a construction project. This includes lifetime analyses, risk analysis and the development of demolition plans and recycling policies for building materials. Our experience ranges from the participation in European Union funded research projects, to smaller projects where environment is significant.

Light Sculpture

Dr.techn.Olav Olsen a.s performed the structural design on the sculpture, with particular emphasis on the wind issues associated with installing such a slender structure.
