Dr.techn.Olav Olsen a.s has project managed a number of Joint Industry Projects in the removal and recycling of offshore installations. The first projects of this kind concentrated their efforts on the lifting and towing off of offshore concrete structures. It was proved that concrete structures may be towed, and that the platform deck may be removed by utilising the lower structures as a "ship". Later studies concentrated on the demolition and recycling of concrete structures.

The company is also involved in the removal of offshore steel structures, and has developed a Heavy Lift Vessel, which may be utilised in the removal of platform decks and jackets.
